Since January this year, there has been an unprecedented crackdown on journalists in Chhattisgarh’s Adivasi-dominated Bastar, better known for the two-decade-long Maoist insurgency. Many, who reported against police excesses in the region, have been branded as either ‘anti-national’ or ‘Naxal’, harassed, arrested, and tortured. The Wire previously reported on how Bastar is turning into a media black hole.

The Wire speaks to Prabhat Singh, who was arrested in March this year, and has been released on bail recently.
