Myanmar is going to polls on November 8. This will be the second general election in the country since the full military rule ended there in 2011.
In 2015, Aung San Suu Kyi and her party, the National League for Democracy, rode to power through a landslide victory. Suu Kyi’s name has always dominated Myanmar’s politics. She began her career in politics through student protests against Myanmar’s military rule in 1988.
The pro-democracy movement saw her emerge as a leader. But soon, as the movement was crushed, many leaders including her were imprisoned.
