New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Joe Biden for his victory in the US presidential election, saying that as the vice-president, the Democratic party leader’s contribution to strengthening Indo-US relations was “critical and invaluable”.
In a tweet, Prime Minister Modi added that he is looking forward to “working closely together once again to take India-US relations to greater heights”.

In a subsequent tweet, Modi congratulated Kamala Harris. “Your success is pathbreaking, and a matter of immense pride not just for your chittis, but also for all Indian-Americans. I am confident that the vibrant India-US ties will get even stronger with your support and leadership,” he said.

The photo that Modi tweeted is from the prime minister’s first visit to the US, when Biden had hosted a lunch for him.
Biden sealed his victory after four days of nail-biting counting, after he was declared the winner in Pennsylvania. The former vice president said he was honoured to have been chosen to lead his country, even as Donald Trump seemingly refused to accept defeat. Trump claimed that he had won the election by a lot, without any evidence.
