Jaishankar to Visit Russia to Discuss Economic Ties, Bilateral and International Issues

The external affairs minister will meet the Russian deputy prime minister and the foreign minister.

New Delhi: Indian external affairs minister S. Jaishankar will visit Russia between today, December 25, and December 29, as part of the ongoing high-level exchanges between the two sides, the Ministry of External Affairs has announced.

Jaishankar will meet Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister and trade and industries minister Denis Manturov to talk “economic engagement.”

With the imposition of Western sanctions on Russia in the aftermath of its Ukraine war, India has emerged a key taker for Russia’s energy exports.

Jaishankar will also meet his counterpart, the Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov, for discussions on bilateral, multilateral and international issues.

His programme will include engagements in Moscow and in St. Petersburg.

“The time tested India-Russia partnership has remained stable and resilient and continues to be characterised by the spirit of the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership,” the MEA noted in its press release on the visit.
