Mob Attacks Sunday Mass In Kolhapur Village, 12 Injured

According to reports, the mass was being held at a rented room in the village when the unidentified men attack the crowd with hockey sticks, stones, iron rods and choppers.

New Delhi: In an incident on December 23, reports say around 15 unidentified men attacked a group attending Sunday mass in at Kowad in Chandgad taluka in Kolhapur district, Maharashtra, leaving 12 injured.

According to reports, the mass was being held at a rented room in the village when the unidentified men attack the crowd with hockey sticks, stones, iron rods and choppers.

Kolhapur superintendent of police Abhinav Deshmukh told the Times of India that the attack may have been orchestrated by right-wing activists. “We are looking at all the angles and the investigation is under way accordingly.”

So far they have been no arrests. The police said that a case has been registered against the attackers under IPC Section 147 (punishment for rioting), Section 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), Section 295 (injuring or defiling a place of worship with the intent to insult the religion of any class), Section 307 (attempt to murder), Section 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), and Section 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt).
