New Delhi: Fugitive self-styled godman Nithyananda has reportedly founded his own independent nation called ‘Kailaasa’ near Ecuador in Latin America with its own “passport”, according to a report in News18.
Tamil Nadu-native Nithyananda, whose real name is Rajashekharan, allegedly fled India after security agencies began probing his involvement in criminal cases including a rape case in Karnataka. His passport expired in September 2018 and police have since declined his requests for a renewal.
The godman has reportedly also launched a website of the country, describing it as the “greatest Hindu nation on earth”.
The website also calls Kailaasa “a nation without borders created by dispossessed Hindus around the world who lost the right to practice Hinduism authentically in their own countries.” The nation also offers a temple-based ecosystem, yoga, meditation, and Gurukul education system along with universal free health care, free education and free food.

Nithyananda has also invited people to become citizens of his “nation”. The website says, “The citizens will be given a Kailaasa passport which, by the grace of Paramashiva, the holder of this passport is allowed free entry in all eleven dimensions and fourteen lokas, including Kailaasa”.
The country also claims to eventually build a ‘Dharmic Economy’, and a Hindu Investment and Reserve Bank.
“Though the Kailaasa movement is founded in the United States, and spearheaded by members of the Hindu Adi Shaivite minority community, it is created for, and offers a safe haven to all the world’s practicing, aspiring or persecuted Hindus, irrespective of race, gender, sect, caste, or creed, where they can peacefully live and express their spirituality, arts, and culture free from denigration, interference and violence,” the website read.
Last month, Gujarat Police arrested two of Nithyananda’s associates, and also booked him under charges of abduction, wrongful confinement, voluntarily causing hurt, intentional insult to provoke breach of peace and criminal intimidation under the Indian Penal Code as well as charges under the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act.
