New Delhi: A report by the news agency PTI quoting officials says that the Pakistan Rangers violated the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan on February 14 and fired unprovoked at a Border Security Forces post along the international border at Ranbir Singh Pora in Jammu.
Firing began at 5.50 pm, the report said, and continued for around 25 minutes, stopping at around 6.15 pm.
The Indian side fired back and did not suffer any casualties, according to the BSF.
The government is expected to appoint a consultant for ‘building competencies’ in the operational capabilities of the BSF, among other Central Armed Police Forces, the New Indian Express reported a day ago.
In November 2023, a BSF jawan was killed after sustaining injuries in a ceasefire violation by Pakistan near the international border at Jammu’s Samba.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address a rally in Jammu on February 20.
