New Delhi: One worker was killed and four others injured in a blast that occurred at the state-owned Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) coal mining project at 6 pm on Wednesday. According to reports, the blast was triggered by a misfiring detonator.
The person who died in the incident, which occurred in the Srirampur area of Mancherial district, was identified as Rathnam Lingaiah (54), a coal cutter. The other injured workers are Palle Rajaiah (52), Gade Shivaiah (53), Chilka Suman Kumar (30) and Katla Srikanth (24).
The five were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they were given first aid. Those with severe injuries were shifted to Hyderabad. Lingaiah died on the way there.
“Preliminary information from the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) is that the explosion in the underground mine was the cause of the accident. We are yet to get full details about the accident,” deputy commissioner of police (Mancherial) Uday Kumar Reddy told the Times of India.
In June this year, four outsourcing workers were killed and three others seriously injured in an explosion at an Open Cast Coal Mine of SCCL in Peddapalli district.
