New Delhi: Six people were killed and 17 injured in a boiler blast at the Neyveli Thermal Power Station in Tamil Nadu’s Cuddalore district on Wednesday. This is the second boiler explosion to take place at the plant in two months.
The figures were reported by Indian Express, whose correspondents spoke to station inspector Latha.
A number of workers are feared trapped, an official told PTI.
The mishap occurred at the fifth unit of the thermal power station-II (210 MW x 7) when workers were in the process of resuming operations this morning.
“Two men died on the spot. Some workers are feared trapped and 16 others have sustained injuries,” the official told PTI adding the injured have been rushed to a hospital in Chennai.
In May, when the plant saw its first explosion, eight workers had been injured and hospitalised.
The fire broke out at the TS II Power plant at Neyveli, resulting in burn injuries to two regular employees and six contract workers, NLC India Ltd said in a statement.
The boiler is 84-metre high and when the accident occurred, the workers and technicians were at a height of about 32 meters, an NLC India official said.
The fire has been brought under control by the fire wing of CISF Unit of NLCIL, the company said.
