‘Don’t Neglect Jawan-Kisan Link’: Armed Forces Veterans Urge Govt to Repeal Farm Laws

“Neglecting the importance of this organic link can seriously affect our country’s security,” more than 100 veterans have written.

New Delhi: As many as 128 veterans of the Armed Forces have released a statement “unconditionally and unequivocally” supporting farmers who are peacefully protesting against the three farm laws at the borders of Delhi.

“We stand in solidarity with the peacefully protesting farmers, empathise with them, and support their demands,” the veterans have written.

Urging the government to consider the farmers’ demand to repeal the laws “since no prior consultation with the primary stakeholders was held,” the brief statement also criticises and condemns the police’s use of tear gas and water cannon on farmers while they were travelling towards Delhi on November 26 and 27.

“We pledge to uphold and support the Constitution of India and stand shoulder to shoulder in support of peaceful dissent and this democratic protest,” the statement reads.

The veterans also cite that 80% of the serving Armed Forces personnel come from a “farmer background and are a part of the very organic Jawan-Kisan link.”

“Neglecting the importance of this organic link can seriously affect our country’s security,” they warn, urging the government to accept the demand of the farmers, once again.
