Andhra Pradesh Government to Come Up with Reworked MSP Guarantee Law

The current draft reportedly has “heavy penalties and jail terms for violators.”

New Delhi: The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to temporarily delay its plans to guarantee minimum support price for farmers, Business Standard has reported.

The news outlet reported that the state government will write a reworked Bill. It was earlier expected to be introduced in the next session of the assembly.

The current draft reportedly has “heavy penalties and jail terms for violators.”

Earlier in October The Hindu‘s businessline had quoted the state’s agriculture minister Kakani Govardhana Reddy as having said that the government had wanted to bring the legislation in the just-concluded assembly session, “but could not do it” as it had wanted to ensure due diligence is done.

The outlet had reported that the draft Andhra Pradesh Farmer’s Produce Support Price Act, 2023 assures MSP for produce obtained from agriculture, horticulture, sericulture, aquaculture, animal husbandry and more.
