A few days ago, a video clip of an attack on a destitute Muslim family in Ajmer had been shared widely on social media.
In it, Hindutva activist Lalit Sharma and others were seen kicking and slapping Ashman Ali and his family members multiple times.
He and Surendra, Tejpal, Rohit Sharma, and Shailendra Tank were later arrested.
In a conversation over the phone with a ‘well-wisher’, a recording of which is with The Wire, Sharma noted that he had the support of all manner of people and was advised by key persons to remain silent for a while.
He also admits to his crime, and says that his only fault was shooting a video.
