Watch | ‘ABVP Goons Targeted Muslims and Minorities’, Says JNU Student on Ram Navami Violence

A student caught in the communal violence at JNU on April 10 details how the incident unfolded.

Ram Navami was celebrated on April 10 and reports of communal skirmishes came in from every corner of the country.

Notable among them was the clash between members of the Hindutva students group, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the students of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). While the students claimed that the incident at JNU’s Kaveri hostel took place after members of the ABVP took objection to non-vegetarian food being served on the Hindu occasion, the ABVP alleged that “leftists” had created trouble over a pooja and havan being organised by “common students”.

The Wire‘s Yaqut Ali takes a look at the incident and speaks to Akhtarista Ansari, one of the JNU students injured in the melee, to understand how it unfolded.
