New Delhi: A Chhattisgarh Bharatiya Janata Party legislator on February 21 questioned the state government – run by his own party – over the delay in securing justice for his son, who was killed in communal violence.
The New Indian Express has reported that first-time MLA, Ishwar Sahu, was given a BJP ticket from the Saja constituency in Bemetra district. In election campaigns, BJP often brought up the death of Sahu’s son Bhuneshwar in Biranpur on April 8, where a tussle between children led to a communal clash. A day later, two Muslim people – a father and his son – were found dead nearby. Union home minister Amit Shah said the then Congress government’s “appeasement politics” was to blame.
Sahu won, defeating the seven-time Congress lawmaker Ravindra Choubey.
In the assembly, Sahu said that only 12 of the 34 accused were arrested.
“I am the father of the deceased person and would like to know in the House whether I will ever be getting justice or not,” he said, according to the report.
CBI to probe
Shortly after Sahu made the plea in the assembly, the state’s deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma said that the Central Bureau of Investigation will probe the incident.
The Hindu reported that when Sahu asked whether a CBI probe would be ordered into the incident, Sharma made the announcement.
