New Delhi: Ruling out chances of an alliance with Congress for the upcoming Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh polls, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has inflicted a major blow to opposition unity ahead of 2019 general elections.

Accusing the Congress of trying to “finish” the BSP, its supremo said Wednesday that her party will contest the assembly elections in both states either on its own or in alliance with regional parties.

According to PTI, Mayawati claimed the grand old party was more interested in destroying the BSP than dislodging the BJP.

“In Karnataka we tied up with a regional party. In Chhattisgarh too, we did the same. Now we have decided to go alone in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. We may go with regional parties there but certainly not with the Congress,” she said in a statement.

Mayawati had earlier announced that the BSP will tie up with Ajit Jogi’s party for the Chhattisgarh assembly polls.

Reacting to Mayawati’s statement, Congress’s Randeep Surjewala said: “At times, out of emotions, sweet and bitter things are said. But at last, if Mayawati ji holds absolute trust in Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, then other creases can be ironed out”.

BJP’s national general secretary Ram Madhav tweeted saying: “Mahagatabandhan in ‘progress’. First AAP n now BSP calling d bluff. Mayawati says Congress arrogant, a new revelation for her, n declares no alliance in MP n Rajasthan too. C’garh already dumped.”
