New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday once again declined to bring forward the hearing of petitions in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title dispute case.
A bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice S.K. Kaul said the appeals would be listed before the appropriate bench in January.
“We have already passed the order. The appeals are coming up in January. Permission declined,” the bench said, while rejecting the request to hear the case earlier. The request was made by lawyer Barun Kumar Sinha, appearing for Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha.

The Supreme Court had said on October 29 that the matter would be listed before an appropriate bench only in January and a hearing date would be decided only then. The order has evinced an aggressive reaction from leaders of the BJP and the Sangh parivar.
The Rashtriya Swamaysevak Sangh’s (RSS) general secretary Bhayyaji Joshi said the order left Hindus feeling “insulted”. Union Minister Giriraj Singh had stated that faith cannot be decided by a court of law and that “patience was running out of the Hindus“.
Several BJP leaders have also mooted the idea of passing a legislation in the Lok Sabha to enable the construction of a Ram temple at the disputed site.
The civil appeals arise from the Allahabad high court judgment which had divided the disputed land into three parts.
