Court Sends Hindu Sena Members to Custody for Vandalising MP Asaduddin Owaisi’s Delhi House

The Delhi court sent the accused Lalit to one-day of custodial interrogation and other four arrested members of the outfit to 14-day judicial custody.

New Delhi: A Delhi court on Wednesday sent a member of Hindu Sena – arrested for allegedly vandalising the official residence of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi – to one day of custodial interrogation and four other members of the outfit to judicial custody in the case.

Metropolitan magistrate Amardeep Kaur sent the accused Lalit to one-day police custody and other four arrested members – Sachin, Shivam and other two persons – of the outfit to 14-day judicial custody.

Delhi Police arrested all five on Tuesday for allegedly vandalising the official residence of Hyderabad MP at Ashoka Road, New Delhi.

While seeking Lalit’s custody, police said he was required for the purpose of recovery of weapon of offence, an axe, and to unearth the overall conspiracy.

A case was registered against the accused under Sections 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) and 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code, and under the relevant section of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act at the Parliament Street police station.

Vishnu Gupta, president of Hindu Sena, released a press statement where he acknowledged the accused as ‘activists’ from his organisation. He further stated that the outfit’s members went to Owaisi’s residence “to teach him a lesson” as he “speaks against Hindus at his rallies”.

Owaisi also expressed that similar incidents had taken place in his house during 2015-16. However, despite complaining to the police numerous times, no action was taken to prevent these violent acts.

He took to social media to put forth his point of view. Owaisi tweeted, “Election Commission HQ is right next door to my house, Parliament Street police station is right across my house. The Prime Minister’s residence is 8 minutes away. If an MP’s house is not safe, then what message is Amit Shah sending?”

He claimed the men shouted communal slogans outside his residence and threatened to kill him. He also claimed that his caretaker Raju was assaulted.
