It has been exactly one week since Prime Minister Narendra Modi demonetised Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes in a sudden move that has left many common people in the lurch. Long queues outside banks, post offices and ATMs are a common sight throughout the country. While most people we were able to speak to are not happy with the move, some have also said that they don’t mind this inconvenience if it’s for the “greater good” of the country. The one sentiment that almost all the people The Wire spoke to echoed was that the implementation of the process of currency exchange could have been better and has caused them great inconvenience.
The Wire visited various banks, ATMs and even the Reserve Bank Of India headquarters in New Delhi to find out how this move has affected everyday lives of common people.
