New Delhi: A woman in Alwar district was reportedly raped for three days by a sub-inspector of Rajasthan police when she went to get a complaint registered, Indian Express has reported. The policeman has been arrested.
The woman was 26 years old and had gone to the police station to lodge a complaint against her husband on March 2, according to the report. She has said that she was raped until March 4 by the police station’s second-in-command.
The Alwar superintendent of police has been quoted as having said that the woman had filed a dowry harassment case against her husband. While the case was later settled, she had arrived at the police station with the complaint that her husband was threatening to divorce her now.
The sub-inspector reportedly raped the woman in his room on the compound of the police station. Another report, on Northeast Today, has identified the policeman as a 54 year old. The report mentions that the crime took place at the Kherli police station.
On March 4, when police came to know of the incident, they registered an FIR. It is not clear how the discovery was made.
“A phone recording has also been presented by the woman, which has prima facie verified her accusations,” the Alwar SP told Express.
The station house officer will also face action, the SP told the newspaper.
The case, which comes to light on International Women’s Day, bears uncanny similarity with one in Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh in January, 2021. A woman had alleged that she was raped twice by a sub-inspector of the Jalalabad police station who also made a video of the incident when she had gone there to complain about a dowry incident.
