New Delhi: Overnight rains in Hyderabad on Wednesday-Thursday wreaked havoc in various parts of the city, with several low-lying areas submerging under water and traffic coming to a grinding halt on arterial roads. In several areas, people spent sleepless nights with water entering their homes due to overflowing lakes and drains, according to reports.
A video went viral on Thursday showing a man getting washed away along with his two-wheeler in the Borabanda area of Hyderabad. He was later saved by locals.

Around 6 pm on Wednesday, mild showers started in the northwestern parts of the city which soon spread to other parts. Within four hours, the eastern side of the city was completely drenched as heavy rains, coupled with thundering, lashed out several areas.
Water-logging was reported from several areas of Secunderabad, Begumpet, Erragadda, Borabanda, Punjagutta, Basheerbagh, Mehdipatnam, Lakdi ka Pul, Himayat Nagar and other areas. A long line of vehicles was stranded after water stagnated under Erragadda and Prakash Nagar Metro stations.
Water levels in lakes, tanks and other water bodies in and around Hyderabad city reached their brim. Authorities lifted four gates of Osman Sagar to let out flood water into the Musi river. Two gates of Himayat Sagar were also opened to release excess water, according to local news reports.
The neighbourhood of Ramachandrapuram received the highest rainfall at 7.6 cm. Trimulgherry, Kukatpally and BHEL areas logged in about 5 cm of rain by 10 pm on Wednesday. Balanagar received 7 cm, Quthbullapur 6 cm and Mothinagar about 5.7 cm.
There have been reports from several areas of residents complaining of apathy on the part of civic administration in reaching out to people affected by rains, according to India Today.
According to the forecast from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) heavy rains are likely to continue over parts of Telangana and Tamil Nadu during the next five days and over Interior Karnataka during the next two days.
Last week, five people were killed across Telangana in rain-related incidents. Four persons were killed when lightning struck at two different places in the erstwhile Warangal district, and a temple priest was washed away after he fell into an SRSP canal in Jagtial district, according to The New Indian Express.
