Varanasi: More than 12 people have died and several are feared trapped after a portion of an under construction flyover collapsed in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi today (May 15), news agency ANI has reported.
The flyover collapsed in near Varanasi’s Cantt railway station. Several of the trapped are likely to be the labourers working on the flyover.
“It is feared that several people are buried under the rubble,” an official said. Some vehicles were also crushed in the incident, he added.

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath has directed his deputy Keshav Prasad Maurya and minister Neelkanth Tiwari to rush to the spot. “The chief minister has expressed grief and directed the administration to speed up rescue operation,” UP minister Sidharth Nath Singh told ANI.
Varanasi has been Prime Minister Narendra Modi’ constituency since 2014.
