Accusing West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee of failing to handle the situation, more than a hundred medical practitioners across various state-run hospitals tendered their resignations on Friday, reports said.
The doctor’s strike in the state has spread to the rest of the country despite the chief minister’s threats to them to return to work. The doctors are protesting an attack by a patient’s family on two doctors and the lack of occupational safety.
“I condemn the agitation. The junior doctors’ strike is a conspiracy by the CPI(M) and the BJP,” said Banerjee to the press.
