In conversation with the Rashtriya Lok Dal chief on the Lakhimpur Kheri violence, farm laws, communal issues around Muzaffarnagar and a new alliance for Uttar Pradesh.

Jayant Chaudhary, national president of the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), speaks with Indra Shekhar Singh in an exclusive interview for The Wire. This is the first in-depth interview he has given since his recent appointment as national president and the demise of his father Chaudhry Ajit Singh. Jayant discusses the Lakhimpur Kheri violence, farm laws, communal issues around Muzaffarnagar and a new alliance for Uttar Pradesh.

The interview also shed light on the healing of wounds in Muzaffarnagar and how communal forces will find it tough to retake UP. The Samajwadi Party-RLD alliance is also discussed, including how it may be the seed for a new, longer term alliance for the future of UP. Jayant also explain his reservations on the three farm laws and how the alleged Ambani-Adani crony capitalism is detrimental for agriculture in India.
