Union home minister Amit Shah moved a proposal and secured the vote to revoke the special status of Jammu and Kashmir in the Rajya Sabha on Monday, August 5. The Centre has also decided to bifurcate the state into Union Territories – Jammu and Kashmir (a Union Territory with legislature) and Ladakh (a Union Territory without legislature).
