A group of journalists in Delhi condemned the ‘press gag’ in Kashmir, and warned against the fallouts of censoring credible news sources.

On July 20, a group of journalists staged a sit-in protest demonstration in front of the Press Club of India against the ‘press gag’ in Kashmir. The three-hour sit-in was organised by the Journalists for Kashmir forum, and saw participation from academicians and civil society members. The sit-in was followed by a press conference, called by the Press Club of India and the Indian Women’s Press Corps. Hartosh Singh Bal (political editor of the Caravan), Seema Mustafa (editor-in-chief of The Citizen), Rahul Jalali (president of the Press Club of India), Sushma Ramachandran (president of Indian Women’s Press Corps) and Rajdeep Sardesai (consulting editor at the India Today group) addressed the media.
