New Delhi: Two time chief minister of Kerala and veteran Congress leader Oommen Chandy has passed away. He was 79.
Chandy had been undergoing treatment at Bengaluru in Karnataka for a while now. His son, Chandy Oommen, announced his death early today on Facebook.
The Kerala government has declared a public holiday and two days of official mourning. The Kerala high court will also shut for the day.
Tributes have poured in on social media. In its tweet, the Congress party described him as, “a stalwart in politics” whose “contributions to Kerala’s progress and development will always be remembered.”
“A true statesman, he leaves behind a legacy that will inspire generations,” the party said.
