Bulldozers Can Be a Sign of Peace and Growth, Says Yogi Adityanath

The Uttar Pradesh chief minister, who is currently in Mumbai to attract investors, sought to underline that UP government was not taking away any Film City from Mumbai, but developing its own.

New Delhi: Bulldozers can be a sign of peace and growth by enforcing law and order, said Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, according to The Times of India.

Adityanath made the remark in Mumbai on Wednesday, January 4, when media persons asked him about his “Bulldozer Baba” moniker. Adityanath and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have stood by what came to be known as “bulldozer justice“. While his supporters described it as a case of proceeding sternly against criminals, his critics called it targeted disproportionate action against the dissenters.

The chief minister is in Mumbai on a two-day visit to woo domestic investors ahead of the Uttar Pradesh government’s Global Investor Summit, which will take place from February 10 to 12.

He sought to underline that the intention behind setting up a film city in his home state was “not to take it away from Mumbai”. Since his government came out with a proposal to establish a global film city along Yamuna Expressway, close to the Jewar airport site, there have been concerns voiced by some in Maharashtra that Bollywood would move to Uttar Pradesh. While UP Film City is spread over 1,200 acres, the one in Mumbai’s Goregoan is situated on a 520-acre land.

“Mumbai is Mumbai. It is the arthbhoomi’ (land of the economy) and UP is dharmabhoomi (land of faith). There can be a confluence of the two. We are not seeking to take the Film City away but are building our own. Work is in progress and some of the top studios have shown interest in coming over,” Adityanath sought to allay fears, according to the Times of India report.

After sending its teams to 16 countries to attract investors to its global investor summit, the Uttar Pradesh government kicked off its domestic tour from Mumbai. According to Hindustan Times, Uttar Pradesh chief secretary Durga Shankar Mishra said state government officials will prepare an effective strategy for the success of roadshows that would soon be held in different cities of the country. These roadshows are aimed at attracting domestic investors ahead of the Global Investors’ Summit in Lucknow next month.
