Bajrang Dal Ayodhya Chief Arrested Over “Self-Defence” Camp

In the video of the “self-defence camp,” which has triggered the arrest, Bajrang Dal activists can be seen practicing shooting, and defeating, volunteers in skullcaps.

Bajrang Dal chief of Ayodhya and Faizabad Mahesh Mishra was arrested last evening (May 25), after a video showing members of the youth right-wing outfit at a “self-defence camp” triggered a First Information Report (FIR).

In the video, Bajrang Dal activists can be seen practicing shooting and defeating volunteers in skullcaps.

Manoj Verma, organiser of the camp, says in the video that the training aims to prepare young men to serve and defend society and the nation.

The video went viral on social media on Monday, May 22.

Sub-inspector Niwas Pandey of the Naya Ghat police outpost of Ayodhya filed the FIR under IPC section 153-A (“promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony”).

Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik has reportedly said that there is nothing wrong in young men undergoing self-defense arms training and that it is “important to understand the intention behind giving such training.”
