New Delhi: Delhi chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal, in his first words after sweeping 62 of 70 seats in the 2020 Delhi assembly elections, said the result has given rise to a new kind of politics – one which is about development. He also began and ended his short speech with cries of ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai‘, ‘Inquilab Zindabad‘ and ‘Vande Mataram’, perhaps aimed at the Bharatiya Janata Party and others who have accused him of wanting to divide the country.
“This is a win for every family which took me as their son and gave us such support and votes,” Kejriwal said to a thunderous applause from a large number of party workers and supporters at the AAP headquarters.
He insisted that “this is a win for every family getting 24 hour power supply, good education for children and proper treatment in hospitals.”
Kejriwal said, “People have given birth to a new politics. They have sent a message that vote will go to those who will build schools, mohalla clinics, who will provide water, power and new roads.”. He said this kind of politics was very auspicious and augured well for the country. “This will take us into the 21st century. This is also a win for Bharat Mata.”

Kejriwal also took a dig at the BJP, which had questioned his Hindu credentials and his reciting the Hanuman Chalisa, by saying: “Today is Mangalwar (Tuesday). Hanumanji has showered his blessings on Delhi; a big thank you to Hanumanji. We will appeal to God to show us the direction and give us power to serve the two crore people of Delhi better. We will be able to make Delhi a beautiful and clean country.”
The AAP leader also lauded the work by his party workers, who, he said, laboured day and night.
“My family also worked hard, it is also the birthday of my wife, Sunita,” he said, to another round of applause from the party cadre. Then Kejriwal ended his speech by again raising the slogans of ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’, ‘Inquilab Zindabad’ and ‘Vande Mataram’, which were clearly aimed at sending a strong message to his supporters and opponents alike.
