NEET-UG Exam: NTA Releases Revised Scorecards for the Third Time Today

The latest set of results is in accordance with the Supreme Court’s direction, which rejected the National Testing Agency’s view that there were two answers to a particular question in the Physics section of the exam.

New Delhi: The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Friday, July 26, released revised scorecards for the NEET-UG medical entrance test, making it the third set of results for the exam held on May 5.

The result declared on Friday is in accordance with the Supreme Court’s direction, which rejected NTA’s view that there were two answers to a particular question in the Physics section of the exam. The court took into account an expert opinion from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, which said that there cannot be two answers to that particular question.

“We accept the IIT Delhi report and accordingly NTA shall re-tally the NEET UG result on the basis that option 4 represents the only correct answer to the question,” Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud had stated.

With the latest change, the number of students who secured the top mark dropped from previous 61 to 17.

Results for the exam were first declared on June 4, leading to protests across the country over the alleged irregularities in the exam. A controversy erupted over grace marks awarded to 1,563 students. A re-test was administered for these 1,563 candidates in the wake of protests. Following this, the scorecards of all the candidates who took part in the exam were amended again, making it the second time the results were declared.

Therefore, results declared on Friday are the third set of results, displaying each candidate’s all-India rankings and scores for the year.

The Supreme Court had on Tuesday, July 23, dismissed the pleas seeking cancellation and re-test of the controversy-ridden exam, holding that there was no evidence on record to conclude that it was “vitiated” on account of “systemic breach” of its sanctity.
