NSUI District President Arrested For Threatening a Female Student

The NSUI has suspended Irfan Hussain, Shahjahanpur president, and has prohibited him from participating in any party activity.

A district president of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) – the Congress’ student wing – has been booked by police after a video showing him threatening a female student went viral.

The video shows Irfan Hussain, district president of Shahjahanpur, telling a female student who complained about being molested at Gandhi Faiz-E-Azam (GF) college, “You are just in the first year now, you have to stay here for three more years, you must reform yourself. I will make it very difficult for you to enter the college main gate. Act like a woman, stay in your limits.”

After the incident came to light, the Uttar Pradesh police arrested Hussain, ANI reported. According to Scroll.in, three others were also booked for their alleged involvement in the incident.

The female student claimed that Hussain threatened her in the presence of several students and college professors outside the college.

Taking note of the allegations and the arrest thereafter, the NSUI –  as per a letter uploaded on their official Twitter handle – suspended Hussain from his position and prohibited him for participating in any party activity. According to the Times of India, the NSUI has taken the decision in accordance with its protocol.

Hussain has not a made a statement about the matter.
