In an interview that raises serious, even disturbing, questions about the true state of the economy underlying the recently released Q2 results – and also raises doubts about whether some of the results hide more than they reveal – India’s former Chief Statistician and one of the country’s foremost economists, Pronab Sen, has said if the government does not take the requisite steps, primarily to help the MSME sector, GDP growth in 2023-24 may only be 4.7 or 4.8%.
