New Delhi: On the concluding day of the 86th Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana on Sunday (January 8), the participants resolved to oppose the imposition of Hindi in the state and urged the state government to withdraw cases filed against Kannada activists.
According to The Hindu, there were a total of six resolutions passed at the event:
1. To thank all those who made the event a success.
2. Asking the state government to pass an ordinance on ensuring that Kannada is used more effectively in education, judiciary and administration.
3. Urging the government to implement the Supreme Court order on the pending case of the Mahajan Commission report concerning the Karnataka-Maharashtra border dispute.
4. Urging the government to withdraw all cases against Kannada activists.
5. Opposing the imposition of Hindi or any non-Kannada language.
6. Organising the ‘Vishwa Kannada Sammelana’ in Davangere in collaboration with the Kannada Sahitya Parishat.
The next Sammelana, it was decided on Sunday, will be held in Mandya. According to Deccan Herald, Mandya bagged 17 of the 46 votes cast by committee members.
Before this year’s event, a section of Kannada writers alleged that the Kannada Sahitya Sammelana in Karnataka’s Haveri has ignored Muslim writers and poets.
