New Delhi: The Wire received two awards – ‘Best News Startup of the Year’ and ‘Best Use of Video’ – at the South Asian Digital Media Awards 2019, on February 18 here.
The awards, which recognise publishers who have adopted digital media and mobile strategies to meet the major changes in how people consume news, were presented in several categories. Within each category, winners and two runners up were given gold, silver and bronze awards respectively.
Both of The Wire’s awards were ‘gold’. The ‘Best Use of Video’ honour was for its pre-Lok Sabha election show, Sadak ke Sansad.

The Hindu and The Wire are the only two news organisations to win two gold awards on Tuesday. The awards saw more than 80 entries from more than 20 news companies, which were evaluated by an international jury.
Manoramaonline.com won the Best News Website of the Year Award. BBC News, NDTV Hop, Arre, Sangbad Pratidin, Prothom Alo, and The Hindu were among winners.
The awards were presented by WAN-IFRA.
