Fast fashion is all about cheap, disposable, and trendy clothing. More than clothes, it sells the idea of affordability and excess. But manufacturing a polyester, acrylic or cotton garment – the prime fibres of fast fashion – is causing irreversible damage to the environment.
In the developing world, it’s directly affecting water sources, by both contaminating and depleting them.
In a three-part series on how fast-fashion clothing is harming day-to-day lives in the developing world, The Wire explores what is fast-fashion, why we may not need really those sweatshirt shorts we just ordered from an online store, and what each of us can do to clean our fashion footprint in the world.
Stay tuned for more.
