The political discourse in India has always shown the Muslim community to be socially and educationally backward. Within this framework of the community’s overall backwardness, it is Muslim girls and women are particularly disadvantaged.
In this video, The Wire attempts to decode the reasons behind this gender-based backwardness. Towards that end, The Wire looked at the texts Muslim girls studied and still study in different kinds of educational spaces – the classroom, the madrasa and at home.
