Watch | How the Pandemic Has Changed the Lives of Sex Workers

The women of GB Road in Delhi have told the Delhi government that if it assists them with alternative modes of making a living, they are ready to take them up to feed their families.

Sex work is not illegal in India, but the coronavirus pandemic has almost destroyed this trade. The women of GB Road in Delhi are distraught and have told the Delhi government that if were to assist them with alternative modes of making a living, they are ready to take them up.

The Wire’s Yaqut Ali interviewed women who told him that apart from facing a lot of problems in this line work, they are also not receiving proper treatment in hospitals. “If the government gives us a job, we will leave this job,” they said.

The women said they were given rations last year, however since their work makes them more susceptible to COVID-19, people have stopped coming, because of which they are not able to feed themselves and their children.
