The fishermen and fisherwomen of Vashi gaon, located in Maharashtra, say that they have not received a “single paisa” from either the state or the Central government as compensation for losses that they are incurring because of the coronavirus pandemic.
A middle-aged woman says that fishing is the only thing she knows, and that her community cannot even think of doing anything else to earn money.
The villagers also narrate, in detail, the other challenges they have been facing. They say that industries in the nearby area have been polluting the water which directly affects the breeding of the fish they trade.
The pandemic has only added to their woes.
